Internet disruption for fixed line services in Tonga [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

A TCC internet router.

Hundreds of internet users lost their service in Tonga yesterday morning in an extended internet disruption that is continuing for some customers of Tonga Telecommunications Corporation for a second day, today.

While the TCC wireless service remained operational yesterday, TCC staff explained that the outage affected their prepaid customers and the ADSL fixed line services. TCC staff said they were working on the problem and would work overnight to fix it.

TCC administration was unavailable for comment today.

However, the problem appeared to be related to the DNS authentication service. Internet services were restored for some fixed line customers yesterday afternoon, and more today after staff manually reset the DNS configurations of customer routers.

Tonga Cable Ltd. told Matangi Tonga that the international cable connection to Tonga was functioning normally.
