Tonga Police and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) have formed a partnership for policing development under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The MOU was signed by the Minister of Police Hon. Lord Nuku and Australian High Commissioner HE Adrian Morrison yesterday, February 11.

The new bilateral agreement replaces the tripartite agreement between Tonga, Australia, and New Zealand, that was known as the Tonga Police Development Program (TPDP) commencing in 2008 and ending in June 2020.

Lord Nuku was very grateful for the support given by the Australian Government through the AFP and for Australia’s future commitment working together with Tonga Police.

Tonga Police is expected to sign a similar bilateral agreement with New Zealand at a later date.
