Hundreds of young students from various Government Primary Schools in Nuku'alofa today performed in a cultural dance competition, at the Tonga High School field.
The competition organised by the Ministry of Education involved all government primary schools, throughout Tongatapu, with the eastern and western districts holding their events earlier in the week.
The students wearing various beautiful traditional costumes performed the ta'u'olunga, soke, ma'ulu'ulu and lakalaka supported by their teachers, and watched by parents.
Participating schools today included GPS Ma’ufanga, Ngele’ia, Kolomotu’a, Tonga Side School, Haveluloto, Fasi-mo e-Afi, Hala’ovave, Popua, Longolongo, Fanga-‘o-Pilolevu and Nuku’alofa.
The event teaches students the importance of Tonga’s cultural dances in preserving national heritage.
