The Court of Appeal second session, which will hear Lord Tu’ivakano's appeal against his conviction is deferred to start on October 19 in Nuku'alofa.
The Supreme Court office said today, this is due to Covid-19 related delays in the transportation of the documents for the appeals to the Court of Appeal judges.
The appeal session was initially set to start on September 21 with two appeals, Lord Tu’ivakano’s and a land case, Kaufusi & Hua v Veatupu & Ors.
Lord Tu’ivakano is appealing against his conviction, after a jury found him guilty on three charges of making a false statement for the purpose of obtaining a Tongan passport, perjury and possession of an arm and ammunition without a license.
Meanwhile, the appeal session will run in Court via video conference, as the judges live abroad and cannot be physically present due to COVID-19 restrictions.
