The price of petrol has increased, while kerosene, diesel and LPG prices have decreased effective today, 16 September.

The new prices were approved by the Tonga Competent Authority.

Wholesale petrol has increased by 2.91 seniti/litre, while kerosene and diesel have decreased by 0.98 seniti/litre and 1.09 seniti/litre respectively. All price changes include consumption tax.

The prices are due to international price fluctuations. Comparing the August 2020 month average prices with July: 

• Crude oil (Dated Brent) was up by USD 1.80/bbl (4.2%);
• Petrol was up by USD 1.6/bbl (3.4%);
• Kerosene was down by USD 0.64/bbl (1.5%); and
• Diesel was down by USD 0.71/bbl (1.4%).

The freight rate and the Tongan Pa’anga remained stable for the period. 

LPG

LPG prices in Tongatapu and Vava’u have dropped by 0.08/kg and 0.07/kg respectively for this quarter.

International LPG prices were steady as there was no new demand and supply was restricted due to OPEC production restraints. Saudi CP Butane prices averaged USD 338/tonne in the third quarter of 2020, a USD15/tonne (4%) drop compared to the second quarter.

The table below shows the new LPG prices for Tongatapu, Vava’u, Pangai (Ha’apai), ‘Ohonua (‘Eua) and Niuatoputapu. All prices include consumption tax.
