An upgraded classroom building for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training facility at Queen Salote College in Nuku'alofa, was handed over today from the Government of Japan.
The project was funded with USD$81,500 through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
Tropical Cyclone Gita damaged the building in 2018 and this project installed a new roof, ceiling, walls and windows. There is also a classroom and rooms for cooking, sewing, catering and hospitality as well as storage.
Japanese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Mr Tetsuya Ishii said they were happy to take part in enhancing the quality of learning for the technical department, so that students could now enjoy their academic lectures more comfortably and safely.
He said the promotion of technical education and training to equip youth for the future aligned with Tonga’s National Development Frameworks, and it was his wish that this project would lead to an enduring future success for the students.
“Education is an important step for nation building and also a driving force for the country’s development,” he said.
President of the FWC Education, Rev Dr. Mele'ana Puloka thanked Japan for their generous assistance.
