I am not so sure how reliable Taasi Holiday...‚s information is in his letter "Thank you Shoreline". But if Holiday is working for the company then he must be a reliable source, so thank you for answering my question in my last letter. So, now we know that the King is the owner of Shoreline. Is he the sole owner or in part-ownership of the company? Did the Government pay the $2 million pa'anga bill for Shoreline because the King required it or does the Government still have an obligation to finance this company when it is in financial trouble? You see Mr Holiday, Shoreline may be a private company, but when the Government bailed it out by paying off such a massive debt, the taxpayers in Tonga have the right to know Why? High salaries and bad debt don'‚t make business sense. You can see the writing on the wall Bankrupt, Bankrupt, Bankrupt . . .


16/11 was not the reason why the CEO and managers of Shoreline decided to sell. The negotiation to sell it was well under way by last autumn. On 03/11/06, Shoreline directors announced in their press conference the sale of Tonga Power to NZ North-Power. I suggest that the main reason for selling Shoreline is because it is up to its neck in debt. However, if I am wrong and Shoreline is a profitable company, then why not float it in the financial market let the Tongans at home and abroad buy the shares. This way, the company can afford to pay its debt, improve its services and cut the tariff to its customers at home. Everyone is a winner!
