Five men and a woman have been arrested and charged after Tonga Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce seized illicit drugs, a firearm and live bullet, between May 21-24.

Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Tevita Vailea confirmed today that a 38-year-old man from Ha’akame was arrested with 1.09 grams of cannabis, one revolver pistol, one live bullet and drug utensils. 

A 31-year-old man from Ma’ufanga and a 38-year-old man from Houmakelikao were arrested with 0.70 grams of methamphetamine and 1.69 grams of cannabis. 

A 34-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man from Tofoa were also arrested with 12.06 grams of cannabis and drug utensils.

A 19-year-old man from Ha’ateiho was arrested with 0.66 grams of cannabis. 

One accused has been charged with possession of illicit drugs and illegal firearms and ammunition, while the other five accused are charged with possession of illicit drugs.

All accused will appear at the Magistrate’s Court at a date to be confirmed.

Tevita Vailea said drugs have no place in our community, “they destroy the lives of the users, harming our children and our communities”. 

“We urge anyone who has concerns about drugs related activity in their neighbourhood to contact police at 22784.” 

The arrests are part of Tonga Police’s ongoing operation targeting drug dealers.
