Editor,

I felt disgusted after reading Sione Lousiale Kava's "sadness" letter entitiled, "Pangai Si'i Faifekau can go to Hell". In his first paragraph he admitted feeling very sad by the 16/11 event. However, I thought at first that it would be normal for anyone to feel the same way after seeing the destruction to the capital. But then I realized after reading a little further, the first paragraph, that it really wasn't the physical destruction that saddened Mr. Kava: it was his memories of what the capital used to look like, which has now changed, that troubled him. I thought to myself, "was it sadness that Mr. Kava really felt like he said or was it something else?"

However, Mr. Kava went on to accuse the Pangai Si'i faifekaus of, in his own words, "encouraging disobedience to the mob". He called on the faifekaus to, "take themselves and their god to hell, for that is where they belong". And that's when I thought that Mr. Kava stepped out of line. He shows how very little his understanding the role of a faifekau or pastor really is. For if he did understand it a little bit more then he will inevitably realize that a faifekau's role is totally independent of what Mr. Kava himself would like it to be. And as soon as he realizes that he will leave them alone.

He even went on to talk about the destructions and the "ultimate crime", as he put it - probably referring to the killings etc, they have committed around the world with the United States Marines. I asked myself, "‘is this a big show off of what he did or can do with guns and bullets?" He even confessed how he was dying to murder, with high power explosives, the local Tongan boys who trashed the capital. He waited for a chance to do it but it never came as his father was watching every move he made. But you know what? I too am thankful that Mr. Kava's father watched him. Because if he didn't and Mr. Kava proceeded with his plan and the local boys found him I tell you the truth he would wish he never visited Tonga.

There is a saying in Tonga; "fakapuna pe 'e he mafana". I'm afraid but that was really the case with Mr. Kava. He was just "fakapuna pe 'e he mafana" to say the things he said about the pro-democracy supporters ... myself included.

Finally my advice to this US Marine: the next time you visit Tonga it would help to let the local boys know what you want and where to find you.
