A new two-storey office building for Tonga’s Ministry of Tourism, named ‘Api ko Lata‘anga, was officially opened by HRH Princess Pilolevu on 19 March 2020 behind the Tonga Tourism centre on Hala Vuna, Nuku'alofa.

Princess Pilolevu  reminded  the staff of the Ministry of Tourism that ‘Api ko Lata’anga (my favourite home) implies that they make Tonga  a favourite destination for tourists. Tongatapu was the home for three dynasties, and that is why it is also called Tonga 'Eiki, she said.

The princess, a former Education Officer for the Tonga Visitors’ Bureau during the 1970s, was delighted with the new office building.

She also reminded  the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr Pohiva Tu’I’onetoa and the Minister for Tourism, Hon. 'Akosita Lavulavu of the importance for Government to encourage the Private Sector to get involve in the development of the tourism industry.

The Chief Executive Officer of Tonga’s Ministry of Tourism, Sione Moala said that the $1m two-storey building; constructed at what has been the home of Tonga’s tourism since the 1970s, will be able to accommodate the different sectors of the Ministry that have been located in various government offices in Nuku’alofa.

The $1m new building was constructed by the Ca’Bella Pacific Construction and was financed by the Tongan Government.
