Thursday, March 12, 2020 - 13:58

Tongan-New Zealander Lisa Adams has set a new world record as a shotput para-athlete  (F37 classification), with a dominant performance at the New Zealand Track & Field Championships last week in Christchurch.

Adams threw 15.28 meters, extending her record of 14.80 meters set at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai.

Lisa was born with left hemiplegia, a form of cerebral palsy affecting the left side of her body. She is a gold medal favourite for the 2020 Tokyo Para Olympics, set to follow in the footsteps of her older sister Olympic shotput champion Dame Valerie Adams.

The 29-year-old is coached by her sister who is also aiming to win gold for New Zealand at this year’s summer Olympic games.
