The United Kingdom has appointed Miss Thorhilda Abbott-Watt OBE to be the new British High Commissioner to Tonga. She will arrive to uptake her residence next month February. It marks the return of the British High Commission in Tonga since its departure in 2006.

According to her credentials released by the British Government, Abbott-Watt OBE most recently served as the Ambassador to Turkmenistan. She also served as British Ambassador to Armenia and Mongolia.

A former British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Robin Ord-Smith, was originally appointed to be High Commissioner to Tonga last year. Miss Abbott-Watt will now take the post.
