Prominent businessman dies in hit and run [1]

A prominent Tongan businessman died on Saturday night, 28 December, after a hit and run incident on Vuna Road, Fasi.
Tonga Police confirmed Tausinga Taumoefolau (46) from Kolofo’ou died instantly when a speeding mini-van hit his stationary car from behind at around 7pm and sped away.
They said Tausinga had stopped to buy tomatoes at the front of the Kimiko Restaurant, and had returned to his small car when the incident happened.
The alleged driver of the mini-van was apprehended by Police later that same night and remains in custody.
Tonga Police said they arrested a 31-year-old male from Pahu, and allege he was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Tausinga ran a number of businesses in Nuku'alofa, including City Central Cafe, the Molisi $ave Supermarket in CBD, the Nuku'alofa Fishing Club catering, and his recent acquisitions of Radio 88.1FM and the Taimi ‘o Tonga newspaper.
He was also a committee member of the Nuku'alofa Outrigger Canoe Club.
This is the fourth road death for 2019.
