Multi-million project boosts Nuku’alofa water service [1]

HM King Tupou VI unveiled a plaque, at Mata-ki-‘Eua yesterday, 3 November, to mark the completion of a USD$16.7 million project that was launched in 2011.
Also completed was a $10m Pa’anga 4000 cubic meter reservoir, which the Prime Minister and the Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. Pohiva Tu’I’onetoa said was constructed by a Nuku’alofa based, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC0.
The USD$16.7m project was co-financed by the Asian Development Bank, the Australian Government and the Tongan Government, and was designed to improve living conditions and to boost the Nuku’alofa urban population’s access to municipal services.
The Chairman of the Tonga Water Board, Dr Sitiveni Halapua expressed his sincere gratitude to the Royal Family for 140 acres of Crown land that had been made accessible for the Tonga Water Board to use for the objective providing water for public use.
The delivering of efficient and sustainable water supply and sanitation services in Nuku’alofa are key outputs of the project.
