Editor,

It is time for the people of Tonga to retire all of the People's Representatives. Nothing they have done in Parliament even for the past 20 years would make up for the damages they have instigated to the image of Tonga. The hate campaign conducted by the leading members of the Pro-Democracy movement on the ethnic business community has come to fruition and has made Tonga, and worse its people, as a racist country in the eyes of the international community. The multiplier effect of such destruction on the economy and the people of Tonga as a whole will be immense.

When you have Mindless Politicians, a Gutless Police Service, Indecisive Government and an Untutored Parliament, the ignorant and thugs believed that they were in control of a country, even for only a few hours. The amount of damages is only surpassed by the stupidity of the action, alleged by our power hungry People's Representatives as justified by their right under a naïve and childish democratic model, rammed through the parliamentary process for a ballot they cannot win. But, only to serve as an excuse for a mindless rampage by a group of thugs fuelled by hatred, and intoxicated for such a task. Some of these People's Representatives have threatened the government with such manufactured social unrest for some time, and worst in the week of the riot. Even now, they still try to portray to the outside world that it was an uprising by the general population, while in reality was conducted by a group of 200-400 people mostly youth that have been recruited for the task. The outcome is the mammoth destruction to a Country dubbed as one of the most politically stable in the Pacific for the past centuries.

When these Mindless politicians brandish a democratic model for Tonga promoted with empty slogans, which are fraught with racism, discrimination and hatred, our proud Country can only lament the consequences. Fortunately for Tonga, these politicians... concept of ...people... is not equivalent with the true meaning of the term in reality, which means ...majority... or most of the people. The group that they recruited for the demonstration rightly portrayed as the (Pangai Si'i Mob) are the extremists and thugs that they can find from country towns and the fringes of the capital Nuku...alofa. The immensity of the destruction imply a well thought out and planned arsonist campaign to maximize the lawlessness portrait of the Kingdom to the world for political gain by these mindless few is a selfish grab for power that has never been exercised by anyone in Tonga for ages. Uliti Uata admits on interview that the businesses destroyed are businesses that have links to government, which implies that, the mob have pre-selected their arsonist list for that day. Finau Tutone on interview, to the amazement of the interviewer, claimed that this outcome is a sign of an enlightened people. However, and most alarmingly, they feel no sympathy at all for the country, and worse, treat the interview as a victory parade.

One of the worst forms of social incompetence reared its ugly head that day, apathy in its worst form. The helpless owners and employees of businesses that were looted and burned, right in front of a church going public, and only a few dared to lend a helping hand. A public severed of their social responsibility and altruistic values through years of mindless propaganda of hatred and the principle of ...them and us... in the name of democracy. But above all that, is the total failure of our Police force to plan for such social occurrence, and to protect the property and rights of the business sector that has been the target of hate campaign by the leader of the pack ...Akilisi Pohiva and ...Uliti Uata. This reminds us of the adage, ...fail to plan is a plan for failure.... However, no country in the free world would allow its Parliament proceedings to be disrupted by demonstrators regardless of the object of the campaign. The police force was unable to secure the parliament vicinity for weeks, up to the day of the rampage by the mob. If this is a test case for our new Minister of Police and his staff, they failed miserably.

The government has been trying to appease the Pangai Si'i Mob in a number of ways, but with the irrationally intoxicated mind of the pack leaders, they take any indecision by government as a weakness of leadership and it fueled their arrogance by the day. Thus, it induces a spirit of incontinence in Parliament where both representatives of Nobles and People have no objective agenda for the good of Tonga as a whole. For, if you unanimously vote for your own pocket one day, it would be very difficult to have a reverse motion for the good of the country the next day. In addition, the indecision give the power hungry people representatives the motive to go for broke in ramming their model through parliament for a vote. However, we cannot afford not to be suspicious of the motive. Pushing the Parliament to vote on a motion with an impractical content was a hopeless exercise, for it was clear that day that the nobles were not in favor. Alternatively, this is just an engineered trigger for the mob to rampage. It seems that losing the outcome of a ballot would not make any difference for the mob. One thing is clear, these people were prepared and planned for a revolution to satisfy their ambitions for power and they want Tonga to pay for it. However, when it failed to spread beyond the CBD they should have realized by now that they have committed a Political Suicide.

Thus, I fully support the Government in declaring CBD as a crime scene, and to pursue this investigation to the end. No negotiation, no more petitions, it is just the long arm of the law bringing a group of thugs to justice. We have to prove to the world that we are mature enough as a nation to handle our own affairs, tidy up our own backyard. The irreparable damage to Tonga has been done. It would also be a political suicide for Tonga to even think of a third party to broker a deal between the government and these people representatives. Our people representatives have just lost the moral and ethical right to represent the people of Tonga. However, they are entitled to and still have the right to represent their constituent, the ...Pangi Si...i Mob.... The only thing missing is for the People's Representatives to hand in their resignation at the close of the 2006 Parliament.

It would also be appropriate for all organizations and associations from Tonga Rugby, Tonga Business Association, Teachers association and PSA or any other, to ask for the resignation of those who have been associated with the Panga Si...i Mob. For a start, Sangster Saulala, Tui Uata, Ive Puloka, Finau Tutone. It is a priority for the people of Tonga to show the world that we do not condone nor sanctify the stupidity, instigated by the Pro-Democracy and their supporters, and the racial slur that has tarnished the decency of our social image as a people.
