The three men accused in connection with the seizure of ten illegal firearms and more than 20,000 live bullets allegedly smuggled through shipments from the United States, had their case adjourned to October at the Magistrate's Court in Vava'u.
Viliami Talivakaola (43) from Kameli, Lea Lile (45) from Leimatu’a and Fanguna Paea (74) from Neiafu have been similarly charged with the importation of these illegal items.
The lower court confirmed today that the men accused appeared on August 28 and had their case adjourned to October 8, after prosecution asked for time to get case documents from the Police in Nuku'alofa.
In the first week of July, Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce in a joint operation with Tonga Customs intercepted the illegal firearms and ammunition.
Three shipments were seized at the Customs Warehouse in Vava'u and one shipment was seized from a bonded warehouse in Tongatapu.
The firearms had included rifles and shotguns.
