Fua‘amotu wins 'Let Kids Cook' healthy [1]

The young students of Fua'amotu Government Primary School went home with $750 pa'anga cash prize, after winning a cook-off on August 23 in Nuku’alofa.
Second place of $350 pa'anga was GPS Kolonga and third was a tie between GPS Tu'aliku 'o Pilolevu & GPS Malapo, who were awarded $200 pa'anga each.
In addition, each student received a $10 pa'anga each for participating in the competition.
Organizers said GPS Fua’amotu was a standout winner because their dishes used local ingredients, including the plates and utensils, which they served their food on.
The competition held under a 'Mai e Nima' initiative encourages Class 5 students to cook healthy meals with locally grown produce and enhance awareness on nutritional value has added an element of healthy competition to really boost its in-school activities.
All government primary schools on the eastern district were given the opportunity to participate in this competition and these four made the final cut, from the applications received.
The last Mai e Nima cooking competition was in December 2017 and this is one of two competitions to be held this year.
Held at the Women's Division Kitchen at the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFFF), the competition was supported by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and the Nishi Foundation.
The Minister for Agriculture Hon. Losaline Ma'asi opened the competition.
