Rainfall is forecasted to be average over Tongatapu and ‘Eua and below average for the rest of Tonga for July to September.

However, the outlook for October to December rainfall is forecast to be below average throughout the country, except Niuafo’ou forecasted to be average.

Tonga Meteorological Service reported that last month in June, rainfall was very much above average in the Niuas, average in Ha’apai and Fua’amotu and below average in Vava’u, Nuku’alofa and ‘Eua in June. 

The wet season has officially ended and the dry season started on May 1 to October.

Dry season is also known as the cool season or winter for Tonga and this is when we experience less rainfall than average. 

Meanwhile, climate models indicate the tropical Pacific will remain at ENSO-neutral state through the winter and spring. 

With the ENSO status and the current dry season, the public are encouraged to be aware of the current weather situation and stay alert at all times to forecasts and warnings provided from the Met service. 

"It is advised to seek advice from relevant authorities of sensitive sectors, e.g. Agriculture, Water, Health and the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) on the best practices to save lives and property and minimize the effects of natural disasters."
