The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Tonga's Ministry of Public Enterprises, Sione Pulotu ‘Akau‘ola, has been reappointed for a four years term by the Public Service Commission.

The appointment commenced on 26 June, 2019. Mr ‘Akau’ola from Kanokupolu, and Nukunuku, holds a Masters of Business Administration (2003) and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics and Management & Public Administration (1999) from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji. He joined the public service in 1999 as an Assistant Secretary in the then Establishment Division of the Prime Minister’s Office.

He has held senior positions in various Government Ministries including Acting Secretary for Marine and Ports, Acting Secretary for Civil Aviation, Acting Secretary for Transport, and Acting CEO for Public Service Commission and Acting CEO for the Ministry of Public Enterprises. In 2015 he was appointed CEO of public Enterprises for four years.

The PSC stated that the Chief Executive Officer has the responsibility of implementing government policies and decisions, and for managing the administrative functions and operational activities of the Ministry. He will also be responsible for developing and leading programs to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery outcomes.
