The highly successful annual One Tonga Concert never fails to impress, and last night’s musical evening of “Glorifying God in Song” brought colour, passion and a sense of community to the stage in a special performance for the 60th birthday of King Tupou VI at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall in Nuku‘alofa.
Robina Nakao, CEO of FEXCO / Western Union Tonga hosted the event for the ninth time, bringing together different denominations and their congregations, but it was the first time that HM King Tupou VI has attended. Queen Nanasipau'u regularly attends the well-presented event.
Fifteen choirs of all ages performed, with some, like soloist Elizabeth Baker with the FWC Tu'atakilangi Youth, adapting the lyrics of their songs to honour the king on his birthday. Hundreds of performers and an appreciative audience filled the Queen Sālote Memorial Hall to overflowing on Sunday night.
