A new kindergarten building for Maamaloa Fakatouato Kindergarten was handed over on May 29 after being upgraded by the Government of Japan. 

Financed with a grant assistance of USD$86,457 under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), the construction included the building, kitchen and bathroom facility.

Japanese Ambassador HE Mr Tetsuya Ishii said early childhood education recognized by the Sustainable Development Goals provides the important first step for the children to grow into strong responsible individuals and uphold Tonga and international society.

Rev Dr Tevita Palefau, Vice-President of the Free Wesleyan Church Education, which operates the kindergarten thanked the Government of Japan and people for the assistance.

PTA sought for Japan’s assistance for a much safer educational environment for our pupils after the building was partially damaged by Tropical Cyclone Gita in 2018, he said.
