A new multi-million pa'anga complex to house four government utilities was opened by HM King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u at Matatoa on the outskirts of Nuku'alofa, yesterday, 24 May.
The $9.1 million pa'anga complex named “Lakalakaimonu” by the King, will house four government enterprises: the Waste Authority, Tonga Water Board, Tonga Power Ltd. and Tonga Gas. They will share billing facilities and revenue collections for public utilities in the offices.
Speaking at the opening, the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Semisi Sika said that the multi-utility office complex includes a main office building, a multi distribution network depot and workshop, a network suppliers warehouse and a multi storage warehouse with a health and fitness facility.
The complex was constructed by an unnamed local contractor, and the $9.1 million complex was financed with a loan from the ANZ Bank to be repaid from the rent payments of the public enterprises tenants, once they move into Lakalakaimonu and start operating.
Matatoa is the King’s estate located on the main road near the Villa residence.
