The people in Kolonga on eastern Tongatapu had their old water system upgraded and handed over by Japan on April 11.
Funded with a grant of USD$64,908 the funds installed a new tank (5000 gallon), two new diesel water pumps and replaced the main pipes, among other fittings.
Japanese Ambassador HE Mr Tetsuya Ishii was pleased with the successful completion of the project so that the people of Kolonga can have access to clean and stable water supply.
GGP is a direct grant scheme to meet various needs at the grassroots level and encourage its sustainable development in order to ensure that more people can have access to basic human needs, he said.
Kolonga's estate holder, Lord Nuku thanked the Ambassador and the Government of Japan for upgrading the village water supply system, where more than 1000 residents now have access to a reliable, sustainable water supply.
