Five were arrested in possession of methamphetamine, including two teenage boys, during a drug bust at Kahoua and Ma'ufanga on April 2.
Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Fe’ao Vaisuai said the arrests were made early this morning with police seizing suspected packs of 1.7grams methamphetamine, cash and drugs paraphernalia.
Four were arrested at Kahoua, including a 14-year-old and 15-year-old, a 39-year-old and a man (43) from Nukunuku.
The fifth arrest was of a man (36) at Ma’ufanga.
The accused, who have all been charged with possession of illicit drugs, were remanded in custody to appear at the Magistrate’s Court on a later date.
The Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce made the arrests in its mission to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs.
“Methamphetamine is a very harmful and highly addictive drug, not only to those who take it, but to their family and the wider community.”
The Deputy Commissioner said having the trust and confidence of our communities is essential for Police. The good relationship we share with the communities allows us to work together and hold to account those involved in the supply and manufacture of methamphetamine, she said.
"These arrests should reassure the community that preventing methamphetamine supply is a high priority for Police. We will continue to target those who supply meth within our community and hold them to account for their crimes."
