21 packs of meth seized at Ngele’ia [1]

Nineteen people arrested for drugs offences over the weekend in different locations, included one man who was in possession of 21 packs methamphetamine at Ngeleia.
Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai said today, the Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce supported by the Tactical Response Group (TRG) and Dog Unit made the arrests and seized not only illicit drugs but also ammunition and cash in Tongatapu.
She said that ten people (nine men and one woman) were arrested on Friday, March 15 with 3.96 grams of cannabis, 44 ammunition and cash.
On Saturday March 16, seven men were arrested with 14.14 grams of cannabis, five ammunitions and cash.
On Sunday March 17 a 40-year-old man from Lapaha was arrested at Ngelei’a, where 21 packs of methamphetamine (14.06 grams) were seized.
Another man (32) of Vaini was arrested with 1.17 grams of cannabis.
All suspects remain in police custody as investigation continues.
"This is part of the continuing efforts by police to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs that negatively impact our communities. Police are committed to disrupt and detect the supply of drugs and hold those responsible to account,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
“Police, partner agencies and community together will win this war against drugs and safeguard our children and the future of Tonga from its ill effects. We encourage anyone who may have information about drug related offending to contact the nearest Police station, or ring 23417 or 922,” she said.
In an anti-drugs operation initiated in April 2018, the Taskforce have made a total of 211 arrests.
