Prices increase for petrol, kerosene, and diesel [1]

Petrol, kerosene and diesel prices have increased starting today, 18 February, after consumers enjoyed lower prices over the last month.

The Tonga Competent Authority (TCA) approved the new prices for February – March 2019 which saw wholesale petrol, kerosene and diesel prices go up by 6.37 seniti/litre, 2.41 seniti/litre and 4.38 seniti/litre respectively.

The retail prices on Tongatapu for petrol, kerosene, and diesel are 249.37 seniti/litre, 184.49 seniti/litre, and 264.79 seniti/litre respectively.  In Vava’u the retail prices for petrol, kerosene, and diesel are 254.57 seniti/litre, 190.06 seniti/litre, and 269.99 seniti/litre respectively.

The increase in price is due to crude oil, petrol, jet, and diesel prices going up last month.

In addition, the freight rate has strengthened and the Tongan Pa’anga has been steady with the change in international prices flowing through to higher retail prices for all products in Tonga.
