Two Cabinet portfolios have been reshuffled with the separation of the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, now headed by two Ministers.

Lopeti Senituli the PM’s Political and Media Advisor said today Cabinet approved this last week and the change was pending the King’s consent.

The former Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries (MAFFF) was previously under one Minister, Hon. Semisi Fakahau. 

Senituli said with the reshuffle, Hon Losaline Ma’asi formerly Minister for Internal Affairs will become the Minister for Fisheries. 

While, Hon Fakahau retains only the portfolio of Minister for Agriculture. 

He said at there was other reshuffling in terms of other Cabinet portfolios but they are “just Acting in the positions”.

This includes the Minister for Health Hon. Saia Piukala becoming the Acting Minister for Internal Affairs. 

The Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva will take over and become Acting Minister of Public Enterprises (formerly under Piukala). 

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs that was under the PM will now be moved to Deputy Prime Minister Hon Semisi Sika who will be Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Sika is also the Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure. 

It is understood the Prime Minister had confirmed this reshuffle on radio on January 21.
