A brand new 214-seater Air New Zealand aircraft made its maiden flight to Tonga today when it landed at the Fua’amotu International Airport before mid-day 18 December.

Paul Karalus, the General Manager of the Airport Terminal Service (Tonga) Ltd told Matangi Tonga that the aircraft  was a an Airbus321neo - a larger version of the Airbus320 also used for flights to Tonga by Air New Zealand. The Airbus321neo has 214 seats compared to 168 seats available in the Airbus320.

The new Airbus321neo has been scheduled to make two flights to Fua’amotu this week.

Paul believes that more Airbus321neo aircrafts will be serving Tonga and the region in the coming years.
