A village reunion is underway for Nukunuku, bringing together former/current residents and decendents of the village from throughout Tonga and abroad. Called 'Katoa ki Nukunuku 2018' (Meet at Nukunuku 2018), the week long celebration began last Friday 14 December with no shortage of singing, dancing and eating.
Today, the Nukunuku people held a float parade in their village where performances and speeches were made relating to the history of the village followed by a grand feast attended by Lord Tu'ivakano. Nukunuku village has a population of 6,820 and is one of the estates under the Tu'ivakano title.
Tevita Tu’inauvai Jr, Town Committee Chairman (Tonga) said today the aim is to not only unite their people in the various activities but it is also an opportunity for them to meet and initiate projects needed for the sustainable development of the village into the future.
The Nukunuku reunion program will continue until the end of the week.
