Continuing its vision to support sick children at the Children’s Ward at Vaiola Hospital, the Tae Kami Foundation (Walk on Walk Strong -WOWS) handed over new furniture, curtains and presents today, to mark its 10th Anniversary in Tonga.
Hon. Frederica Tuita Filipe cut a cake and officiated the handover with the Tupou College Brass Band and a young WOWS choir entertaining guests with wonderful singing.
Tae Kami (15) was a remarkable young girl, who passed away in August 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer and whose vision it was to provide assistance for children who are battling cancer. It's a mission taken on by her parents Taholo and Sina. In a heartfelt speech, Sina said the last ten years was not an easy road, and thanked sponsors who have committed their support to make her daughter's dreams possible.
"What is evident today is not my strength nor my husband's or family. This is the strength and power of the people who have given us their support. I thank you all for the love that you give is very much received,” she said.
The furniture will be used by parents to sleep on instead of the floor at the ward.
Contribution
Dr Siaosi ‘Aho, Head of the Paediatric Ward said that Tae Kami was a young lady who touched a lot of lives when she was alive and her legacy would continue to do so.
He said the partnership they have with WOWS is important in providing a children friendly environment that they aspire to and assisted the Ministry of Health's limited budget.
The foundation has over the years made significant contributions to the ward including building a playground. “WOWS shares our sentiments that our children are our nation’s wealth,” he said.
The anniversary program continues on Friday, November 23 with Tofiga of the Laughing Samoans holding a fundraising show and a WOWS Foundation march in central Nuku'alofa on Saturday, November 24.
