Police say 8-year-old youngest suicide death [1]

The death of an eight-year-old girl in Nuku’alofa last week, an inquest has confirmed, was a suicide. It is the youngest known suicide death in Tonga..

Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said today that the victim was found at her home at around 7:30pm on November 7. She was rushed to Vaiola Hospital where she passed away.

An inquest held yesterday confirmed her death as a suicide. “This is the youngest,” said the Acting Chief Superintendent.

The young girl’s body has been released to family for her funeral.

The family is from Fasi. No further details were available on how the girl died.
