Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva warmly received the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during a courtesy meeting at his office on Friday morning, at the St George Government Building, Nuku'alofa, at the start of a busy morning of engagements for the Royals on their short Tonga visit.
The Royal Couple were greeted by civil servants who sat on a ground floor covered with tapa cloth, while also singing Tongan hymns.
The Prime Minister accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister Hon Semisi Sika sat down with the Duke and Duchess and had a brief chat before presenting them with gifts.
The Duke and Duchess were also greeted by the Speaker of Parliament Lord Fakafanua and Youth Representatives; Tevita Vaha'i, Commonwealth Youth Parliament Tonga Representative, Elizabeth Kite, Commonwealth Youth Council Member/Pacific Regional Representative and Simaima Bloomfield, Tonga Youth Parliament Representative, on the ground before departure.
In addition, a little boy who cutely held up a sign free hugs, indeed got a hug from the Duke before they left the government building to hundreds of cheering students.
