Petrol and kerosene retail prices have decreased slightly for September to October starting on Tuesday, 18 September, while the price of diesel went up.
Wholesale prices for petrol and kerosene fell by 0.16 seniti/litre, and 1.96 seniti/litre respectively, while diesel increased by 3.05 seniti/litre.
The retail prices for petrol, kerosene and diesel in Tongatapu are 284.82 seniti/litre, 210.63 seniti/litre and 292.25 seniti/litre respectively.
In Vava’u, retail prices for petrol, kerosene, and diesel are 290.02 seniti/litre, 215.83 seniti/litre, and 297.45 seniti/litre respectively.
The new petroleum prices were approved by the Tonga Competent Authority.
They stated that the decrease and increase in prices were due to downward pressure from rising production in non-OPEC countries (primarily from US Shale Oil) and upward pressure from reduced exports in Iran (US sanctions) and Venezuela (domestic disruption) which contributed to lower supply. Overall, the monthly average crude oil price reduced to USD 72.62/bbl for Dated Brent (down by USD 1.73/bbl).
LPG price increases
LPG gas prices for September to December 2018 increased by 0.23/kg in Tongatapu and 0.15/kg in Vava’u resulting in LPG wholesale prices of $3.73/kg and $3.82/kg respectively.
The retail LPG price is $4.31/kg in Tongatapu and $4.39/kg in Vava’u.
The increase in the price of gas is due to the Saudi CP LPG prices increasing and the weakening of the Tonga Pa’anga, further increasing LPG prices locally.
