Tonga Police are investigating a report from Tonga Side School in Nuku’alofa, after young students saw two men with a firearm outside the school compound on Tuesday, September 11.

The men were standing outside a vehicle, parked in a field at the back of the primary school.

"Information that we have now is that five young students had reported seeing the two men, who were wearing hoodies, standing outside this vehicle.

"When they saw the kids walk by, one got out a firearm from the vehicle and pointed at them to scare [them]. They ran back to the school and police were notified. Police officers were dispatched to the area, but the reported vehicle was nowhere to be seen on the field," said a police spokesperson today.

The field, which has an area covered in bushes, is located behind Tonga High School and just outside this school compound.

A investigation has started to follow these accounts.

In the meantime, police are patrolling the area around the school.
