Piukala Laumanu (52) was named as the pedestrian who died early Saturday morning, September 8 after being hit by a vehicle, whose driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, at Nualei.

Police said today the driver, a 29-year-old man from Kolonga, was arrested and charged with reckless driving causing death and drunk driving.

The accident occurred at around 2:00am, when the accused allegedly collided with the victim, who was crossing the main road.

The victim from Nualei passed away at the crash site.
