A civil suit filed by the Pacific Games Council and Tonga Sports Association National Olympic Committee against the Tongan Government will be mentioned on August 3, at the Supreme Court.
The plaintiffs are suing for breach of contract when the Tongan Government, withdrew from hosting the 2019 Pacific Games.
The matter is scheduled for mention before the Lord Chief Justice O.G Paulsen., confirmed the Supreme Court office today. The Government is represented by Dr Rodney Harrison.
On May 15 this year, the plaintiffs filed their claim with the courts.
Cabinet announced on May 17, 2017 that it had ordered the cancellation of Tonga’s hosting of the Games, citing the enormous challenge of mobilizing finance and the impact of the cost on its budget deficit.
