Japan donates van to Ministry [1]

The Government of Japan donated a Toyota Hiace Van to Tonga’s Ministry of Finance and National Planning yesterday Wednesday 27 June.

Japanese Ambassador H.E Mr. Tetsuya Ishii, presented the vehicle to the Minister for Finance and National Planning, Hon. Pohiva Tu’ionetoa. Ambassador Ishii stated during the presentation “I would like to caution all of you to drive safely.”

The Japanese Embassy confirmed that a further two Toyota Hiace Vans will be donated to the Ministry of Health along with medical equipment. The total cost of the three vans is over 9.8 million Japanese Yen, approximately $190,000 pa’anga.

According to the Japanese Embassy, the donations are the second batch of Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid for “Economic and Social Development Program”. The first batch occurred in March this year with the donation of sports equipment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
