Police officer charged with reckless driving causing death [1]

A man (37) from Fangaloto died on Friday night June 1 after the car he was driving was involved in a collision at a Vaha'akolo Road roundabout in Nuku'alofa.
A police officer (51) was arrested and charged with reckless driving causing death in the accident that occured at around 11:15pm at Kolofo’ou.
A statement from Tonga Police said the accused, who was off duty at the time, was driving a UT Ford van heading North on Vaha’akolo Road when he allegedly failed to give way at the roundabout and crashed into the driver's door of the white car driven by the victim.
The 37-year-old man was rushed to Vaiola hospital. He passed away two hours later.
Police allege that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol. He has been charged with Reckless driving causing death, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving a vehicle with no number plate. The arrested officer remains in custody while Investigation continues.
