King Tupou VI opened a new hall for the Free Church of Tonga’s Tailulu College on Thursday, May 24 to mark its Golden Jubilee.

The building constructed at a cost of $6.7 million is situated at the school compound in Haveluloto.

The King cut a ribbon and unveiled a commemorative plaque inside the hall, accompanied by Queen Nanasipau’u, Princess Pilolevu Tuita and led by the President of the Church Rev Semisi Fonua and his wife Carol.

The King named the hall "Falemasiva" to remind us of the spirit and life of being free, the freedom to oneself, the freedom to worship a living God and to mark the golden jubilee. The king said he was happy to see this important work completed.

Hundreds of church members attended.

The construction was commissioned by the church’s conference in 2010 by the church, ex-students of all of its schools and Talulu College education department who contributed to the construction.  The construction report stated that all expenses had been paid for.

The church is currently holding its annual conference attended by members from throughout Tonga and abroad.
