Worker found dead at Queen Salote Wharf [1]

Queen Salote International Wharf, Nuku'alofa, 9 May 2018.

A 46-year-old man was found dead this morning, squashed between two cargo containers at the Queen Salote International Wharf.

Police said this afternoon the victim from Ma’ufanga, was an employee of Dateline Transam Shipping Ltd, who was at the wharf last night for off-loading shipments for one of their vessels.

He was allegedly found squashed between two cargo containers at around 9:00am.

"The dock workers did not see him when completing their work for the night. It was only this morning that he was found," said the police spokesperson.

His name has not been released at this stage as our investigation is underway, she said. 

Meanwhile, Ports Authority Tonga also confirmed the death of the worker, an employee of Dateline Transam Shipping Ltd.

Ports Authority said they extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
