Parramatta Eels Flyer Michael Jennings (30) has committed to play for Tonga in the Pacific Test match against Samoa on June 23.
He told NRL on May 2 that his focus now is Tonga.
"To see how much passion and the feel, personally for me every time I put an Australian jersey or New South Wales jersey on, it never compared to putting on the Tongan jersey, just how much passion and how much it meant to my family.”
Jennings said he would have loved to play Origin but made the decision that I wanted to stay after the World Cup.
He now follows Cronulla Sharks Andrew Fifita who in April confirmed his commitment to play for Tonga.
This is a huge boost for Tonga in the international rugby league arena.
Jennings and Fifita were part of the Mate Ma’a Tonga dream team who made history at the 2017 Rugby World Cup, when they played in their first semi-final in history.
Tonga’s test match against Samoa will be held in Campbelltown.
