Paula Halapua and Siosaia Finau have pleaded not guilty to extortion as a joint enterprise $40 pa'anga from a complainant in 2013.

The case was called before Hon Mr Justice Cato on Monday, April 16 where the Crown represented by the Acting Attorney General 'Aminiasi Kefu amended the indictment from bribery to a more serious charge of extortion.

The case was then adjourned to June 6 to fix a trial date.

It is alleged that the two accused had extorted from a complainant $40 pa’anga on September 19, 2013.

Two nights earlier, at Vaini the accused police constables had taken the complainant into the Vaini Police Station, to be breath tested for alcohol and had allegedly committed the offence, and collected the money on September 19.

Both are charged each with extortion as a joint enterprise each, which they have pleaded not guilty to at the Supreme Court.
