'Eua patients evacuated after hospital roof blown off [1]

Children's Ward at Niu'eiki Hospital, 'Eua, funded by the Japanese Government and opened in 2011.

All eight patients at Niu’eiki Hospital in Angaha were evacuated at 8:00am this morning, after 50 percent of the roof was blown off by Tropical Cyclone Keni.

Acting Deputy Police Commissioner ‘Atunaisa Taumoepeau said an initial report from the outer island, was that the patients, who are all well, were moved to an LDS Church hall at Pangai for shelter.

The eight had included a pregnant woman. A 69-year-old man from Sapa’ata who sustained minor injury from the cyclone, was also being sheltered at the LDS Church hall.

No casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, eight houses in Angaha have had their roofs partially blown off.

He said 10 families have sought shelter at evacuation centers set up in town halls at Futu, Petani, Angaha and Ha’atu’a.
