A dormitory building for the Montfort Technical Institute is being constructed with USD$87,831 Japanese grant ($186,000 pa’anga) at Fangaloto.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 4 to start the construction, which should be completed by November this year, with the Japanese Ambassador HE Mr Tetsuya Ishii and HE Cardinal Mafi present.
The dormitory includes a kitchen and bathroom facility and will house male students from the outer islands. This would also be their first dormitory since being established in 1996.
Montfort, established by the Catholic Church, offers technical courses in carpentry, automotive mechanical and electric engineering.
The grant was provided under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project.
