Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Monday, July 31, 2006 - 20:57.  Updated on Friday, October 17, 2014 - 14:52.

A tour of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland by the Pacific Islanders team in November was confirmed today by the Chairman of the Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance Board (PIRA), Sakopo Lolohea.

Sakopo, who is also the Secretary General of the Tonga Rugby Union, said that the Board will meet in Suva, Fiji on Saturday, August 5 when they will decide on the selectors, "the coach and a management team."

Players for the Pacific Islanders team will assemble in London on October 29. There will be three test matches, against Wales on November 11, against Scotland on November 18, and against Ireland on November 26.

When the Pacific Islanders team made its inaugural tour in 2004 it was coached by John Boe who coached the Manu Samoa at the time. The two candidates to coach the 2006 Pacific Islanders team Mr Pivac, the coach of the Fijian national team, or Michael Jones, the Manu Samoa coach.

Tonga at this stage can't put in a bid for the job, because it has not got a coach for its national team.
