Seventeen teachers working in vocational education in Tonga completed an Australian recognized Certificate IV in Training and Assessment course on Friday, February 2.

This certificate is the required Australian qualification for vocational trainers to deliver any type of course recognized internationally.

 They will be awared the certificates in September this year, during the Australia Pacific Technical College (APTC) graduation.

Participants received Statements of Completion from the Australian High Commissioner HE Mr Andrew Ford.

Tonga Skills said the training, which started in September last year provides immediate benefits to teachers in their day to day work in their schools. They have learned how to lead their teams in training skills, teaching people with a disability, assessment, and providing flexible training at the workplace/out of the classroom to suit the needs of industry and the private sector. They have also learned lesson planning, classroom, assessment and evaluation of students.

Participating teachers were selected from the government’s Tonga Institute of Science and Technology, Tonga Institute of Higher Education, Queen Salote School of Nursing and also private providers ‘Ahopanilolo Technical College, Tupou Tertiary Institute, TBEC and Tonga Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship.

The selection process was assisted by the Association of Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

The training was conducted by APTC funded by Tonga Skills, an Australian funded initiative.
