Pita Taufatofua celebrates his qualification for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Pita Taufatofua has stolen the show once again after qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. The 34-year-old former Taekwondo Olympian successfully qualified as a cross-country skier after coming 6th place in an Olympic qualifying 10km race held in Iceland last week.

Taufatofua and the Royal Tonga Skiing Federation  announced the successful qualification via Facebook.

He stated “I have just qualified Tonga for the Winter Olympics.”

“This was the last day of the qualification process, this was my last race possible and we did it. We have done it.”

“I had seven races and they all failed. I did my best but I fell short each time and I thought there’s one race left, it’s at the end of the world.”

This will be the second Winter Olympics for Tonga since the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, where Bruno Banani represented Tonga in Luge.

Word of Taufatofua’s sensational qualification has already made news headlines around the world.
