Tonga should have a new Prime Minister, a Speaker and  Deputy Speaker, and Cabinet Ministers by the second or third week of December.

The Electoral Commissioner, Pita Vuki today, 24 November, confirmed that the Writ for the November 16 General Election has not been returned to the King, but should be returned on or before next Thursday, 30 November.

Following the return of the Writ of Election to the King, the Interim Speaker Lord Tangi will invite the newly elected Members of Parliament to submit nominations for a new Prime Minister within 10 days.

Within 14 days from the date of when the Writ of Election is returned to His Majesty, the Interim Speaker will call a meeting of the elected Members of Parliament to elect a Prime Minister in a secret ballot.

Following the election of a new Prime Minister, the Members of Parliament will also elect a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker.

The Prime Minister will also proceed and selected his Cabinet Ministers.
