A 4G Plus service for Tonga was launched by Ben Kealy, the Digicel Tonga CEO in Nuku’alofa, on Monday, 20 November at the start of its Christmas celebrations.

Ben said that the 4G Plus service will “provide the fastest network speed in the Kingdom.” The loading of web pages into the internet will be quicker, and content can be downloaded within seconds.

He said that the launching of the 4G Plus is the cornerstone of a US$1.7m investment by Digicel in partnership with Huawei, Digicel’s network operator partner in the South Pacific region.

Huawei is a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company. It is the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world.

Later in the day, a Christmas float parade from the Faua Wharf, along Hala Vuna to Hala Taufa’ahau, ended at Digisquare with the lighting up of the Digicel’s Christmas Tree.
