King to attend Mate Ma'a Tonga v England semi-final [1]

HM King Tupou VI will attend the Rugby League World Cup semi-final match between Mate Ma’a Tonga and England at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday, November 25.

The Lord Chamberlain Viela Tupou confirmed to Matangi Tonga this morning that the King is leaving Tonga on a Royal visit to Europe, with a stopover in Auckland over the weekend.

She said invitations were extended by the Chairman of the Rugby League World Cup 2017, Dr George Peponis Oam, and the Rugby League World Cup CEO Andrew Hill, as well as the President of the Tonga National Rugby League, Semisi Sika.

The invitations were coordinated by the Tonga Consul in Auckland, Stafford ‘Aho.
